Liuzhou will speed up the construction of railways from Liuzhou to Guangzhou (or Shaoguan), capacity expansion of Liuzhou Railway Station and reconstruction of Liuzhou Airport. The 13th Five-Year Plan for Western Development (the Plan for short), which is issued by the National Development and Reform Commission recently, has made comprehensive deployment for the Western Development during the 13th Five-Year Plan and explicitly set forth key targets and projects in ten aspects. In light of the Plan, some projects in Liuzhou are inclusive and shall benefit from it.

The Plan specifies that the western area shall continue to improve constructions of transport, water conservancy, energy, communication, and other infrastructures during the period of 13th Five-Year Plan. With respect to railway construction, preliminary work for construction of railways from Liuzhou to Guangzhou (or Shaoguan) shall be conducted, and electrification modification for Huaihua-Liuzhou railway and Hengyang-Liuzhou railway shall be implemented. As for construction of important hub stations, reconstruction and capacity expansion of Liuzhou Railway Station is listed as a key project. Extension of Liuzhou Airport will be implement aviation development. Throughput capacity shall be enlarged for Honghua Navigation Lock to improve water transportation, based on the shipping capacity expansion of Xijiang River.

According to the Plan, Liuzhou will be built into one of the bases for development of new energy vehicles. Apart from that, Luorong Town of Liudong New District in Liuzhou is granted as a manufacturing-typed town with distinguishing feature, one of nine towns in Guangxi that have been listed among 100 Characteristic Towns in the Plan.
