During the 11th Five-Year-Planning Period, Liuzhou Municipal Transportation Bureau has put forward the preliminary conceptions on Liuzhou's transportation programs for the 12th Five-Year Plan. The urban light rail transportation system would be developed by making use of idle railways, which is the predecessor of the rail transportation in Liuzhou.
The Rail Line 1 was confirmed as the overhead straddle-type monorail with the approvals of relevant departments in 2016. In the late December of 2016, Fei'e Road was under enclosed constructions, which indicated that the constructions on the Rail Line 1 stepped into a crucial stage. According to the Government Working Report, which was presented by Mayor Wu Wei at the 2nd Meeting of the 14th Session of National People's Congress of Liuzhou, the urban rail transit would be propelled in 2017, and the constructions of the Rail Line 1 would be started.
The Rail Line 1 starts from Liujiang District and stops in Liudong New District. In the first-phase construction, the length of rail line is more than 30 kilometers, and around 80% to 90% of rail line will be the overhead railways set up from the ground and parts of which will be underground, such as the railway station. After the completion of the constructions on the Rail Line 1, the zero connections among high-speed rails, coaches, buses and taxes will be realized at the railway station with extremely convenience inside and outside of the city.
