Huang Huidan, who achieved excellent results in the women’s gymnastics competitions at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championship in Nanning, went back to her alma mater – Liuzhou Gymnastics School – to visit her abecedarian and junior fellow apprentices on the afternoon of Oct 13 after her nine years’ departure from Liuzhou.
As the champion of uneven bars in the 2013 Antwerp Gymnastics World Championship, 2014 Nanning World Championship uneven bars’ silver medalist and team silver medalist, as well as the 2014 Asian Games uneven bars’ silver medalist and team gold medalist, Huang Huidan has become another Liuzhou star after Jiang Yuyuan in the Chinese women’s gymnastics team. She couldn’t wait to go back to Liuzhou Gymnastics School where her dream began as soon as she arrived at Liuzhou.
Born in May, 1996, Huang Huidan started to exercise gymnastics by accident. She was in poor physical condition when she was a little girl, so her mother Wu Ronghua sent her to Liuzhou Gymnastics School, hoping that she could become healthier. Unexpectedly, Huang fell in love with gymnastics. Under careful instruction of her teacher Yang Guoxiu, who is also the coach of the former Olympic Gymnastic Champion Jiang Yuyuan, Huang made remarkable progress so that she fortunately became a member of the national women's gymnastics team after the 2008 Olympic Games.
“Girls of her age have smooth hands, but my daughter’s hands are callous, which makes me feel sorry for her,” Huang Huidan’s father said. It was rare for Huang Huidan to stay together with her parents during those years because of strenuous training. The only chance for Huidan’s parents to see her was in the few days during Spring Festival. Usually, they could only make phone calls on Saturday nights when they were missing her.
Huang Huidan was nervous and shy in front of the cameras, but became another person when she was in the training room: sometimes she gave serious guidance to the young students; sometimes she played jokes with them.
After the short vacation, Huang Huidan will start a new training scheme in Beijing. She said she will do her best to get her first Olympic gold medal in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She also hopes that the young students in the gymnastics school can establish their own aims and try hard to realize their dreams unswervingly.
